What is lure coursing?

Lure coursing was originally developed for sight hounds so they could enjoy their instinctual chase drive in a safe environment. Today, we know that any breed may have a desire to chase so our lure course is open to all dogs. In lure coursing the "prey" is a plastic bag that moves across the field on a rope and pulley track.  The course can be changed from time to time, but will typically be the same for a full day of coursing. The handler will enter the field with their dog and hold the dog while the lure operator manipulates the lure to gain the dogs attention.  At the operator's cue, the handler will release the dog to chase the lure around the open field.

Handler’s instructions are simple and easy:

1. Manage your dog safely in and out of the field.
2. Release your dog only on the operator’s cue.
3. Review and follow the rules.
4. Have fun with your friends!
